OxQUIP Patient Conference 2024
On 20th September 2024, the group hosted our first patient conference at Reuben College, University of Oxford. The day was a huge success, with participants and researchers come together to share ideas and perspectives on the OxQUIP study. The conference was a summary of the first two phases of the study and it was an opportunity to give back to the participants who have generously contributed their time and data over the years.
Throughout the event, key researchers shared updates on their groundbreaking work:
Chrystalina Antoniades detailed the development of the NeuroMetrology Lab and OxQUIP over the past 8 years, highlighting the lab’s role in advancing Parkinson’s research.
Charalampos Sotirakis discussed his innovative work with wearable sensors to more accurately track the progression of motor symptoms in Parkinson’s patients.
Aminette D’Souza shed light on the cognitive challenges of Parkinson’s, an often underestimated aspect of the disease.
Salil Patel and Oliver Bredemeyer presented their research on using eye movement data and machine learning for early diagnosis of Parkinson’s.
Niall Conway provided a summary of our telemedicine work of Phase 2, showcasing how smartphones and smartwatches are being used to gather valuable movement data remotely.
Ei Lwin engaged participants in a unique chair-based dance sequence, illustrating the role of creativity and exercise in managing Parkinson’s.
Many thanks to Reuben College for having us in such a wonderful space, and a huge thanks goes to the events, catering, and IT teams for their support. Above all, we want to express our deepest appreciation to the participants, without whom this research would not be possible. The conference was a celebration of their contributions and a testament to the incredible impact they’re having on the future of Parkinson’s research.
